The Humble Nog.

You've tapped into my twisty, funny mind on this one. Let me attempt to explain.

There is a fabric, a product, probably a brand name of "Nogahide".... it's an old (from the 70's maybe? -- surpisingly little on google about it)... imitation leather... it was before pleather, before ultrasuede, etc. It used to be used to cover office chairs, sofas, briefcases, etc. Anywhere they wanted to trick us into thinking it was leather, which is obviously wasn't, it was just a plastic/vinyl fabric vaguely resembling leather (I think a pattern of leather might have been pressed into the surface of the plastic which gave it a sort-of leather look).

Many things were labelled with "Genuine Nogahide" (again, a subtle trick to make us think it was leather - but really, if Nogahide is fake leather, then the whole term "genuine fake leather" is quite funny if you think of it) "Genuine imitation leather! wow!" "Genuine imitation diamond!!" "Authentic faux silk". (Advertising - sheesh!)

Sooooo, in my mind, since Nogahide is imitation leather, and Soya milk is a sort of imitation milk, and soya burgers are imitation ground beef, then I imagine that there must be a creature like an imitation cow, which gives us these imitation agricultural products. Picture them with me, in the fields, grazing like a content heard of Holstein cows.

The next thing to ponder is "Eggnog"!!! Milk from the humble nog, blended with the eggs from rubber chickens? A Christmas drink whilst gathered round the artificial tree perhaps.
